Thomastown Weir Photo request??

Posted by donnacha brennan on 20 June 2009

Hey all, As any of you who completed the Nore race this year have witnessed, the old "V Weir" that once stood in Thomastown collapsed due to flooding (and old age I suppose!) during 2008. Thomastown Paddlers was heavily effected by this as the river level has dropped dramatically and we have lost: 1. Our deep water pond behind the weir, where we would train for racing and also school beginners. 2. The play-boating spot beneath the weir which was one of the best in the south east. However, there is a committee now in place seeking to have the weir (or some form of weir) re-built so as a head of water can be put back in Thomastown. My request to you is a simple one! We are looking for some good pictures of the old weir in its full glory being used by canoeists, to use for promotion and to highlight our loss. If any of you out there have such pictures lying around I would be grateful if you could e-mail them to me at the address below. I'm also hoping to contact Mick Feeney to see if he has any photos, however I do not have his number, so if anyone knows this too I would be grateful. You can check out links to the weir if interested below.

Regards,
