Order your Knysna kayak
Posted by Dermot Hudson on 26 July 2009I will be placing an order for kayaks with Knysna shortly. From the number of expressions of interest, it seems that there is sufficient demand to justify ordering a large container to ship the kayaks. Large containers can fit K2's. If you are interested in purchasing a Knysna kayak via my order please contact me on dermot dot hudson at gmail dot com.
Knysna appear to be the best option as they've offered me a 20% discount on the list prices attached based on my anticipated order size. I expect that most people will wish to order the Vajda model and I attach an information sheet on this model setting out approx weights for each construction type etc [see second tab to the attachment below]. When replying please specify: a) model b) construction type - specify for hull and deck c) seat type: platform v normal and construction type d) rudder system - pedals v t-bar; overstern v understern e) number of boats f) colour - specify for hull and deck g) length to footbar - measured from the middle of the back of cockpit to the left or right side of the front of the footbar
Knysna also sell paddles, footpumps etc - please let me know whether you wish to order any other items - again please specify exactly what you want.
Assuming we fill the container I'd expect shipping to be no more than €100 per kayak. VAT at 21.5% along with import duty of 2.7% need to be added to your cost. 1 euro equals 11 rand (rand seems to have strengthened in the last couple of months).
Please note that Knysna require a 50% deposit on placing the order and the balance before they pack the container. They can supply us with some contact details of agents working with them for many years that can check quality before we pay the remaining 50%. Probably some of you know some South African paddlers well that might perform this task for us - ideally we get someone independent of Knysna to check out the quality of the boats before we part with the remaining 50%.
Knysna will take 5 to 6 weeks max from order to packing the container.
I'm looking for firm commitments at this stage. Once I know the number of boats that we'll be ordering then I'll collect the cash (50%) for onward t/f to Knysna. If anyone has any preferences how this is done please let me know.
For the avoidance of doubt, there's no recourse to me should something go wrong with this order. I don't think anything will go wrong but I'd just like to set out that disclaimer upfront!
