Andrew Maycock

Posted by David Francis on 04 August 2009

I just read the sad news this morning that Andrew Maycock passed away on Saturday morning following tragic circumstances at Barricane Beach , Woolacombe in North Devon despite the brave attempts of his close friend Mark Ressel and Coastguards to save him.

Andrew represented Ireland at both marathon and sprint canoeing in the 1990s.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends

Hi Dave,

Thank you for the kind remarks and posting.

Yes, Andrew died Saturday morning in North Devon following a cardiac arrest. However, the cause is still to be determined. Contrary to newspaper reports, he didn't drown but his heart was abnormal. The coroners inquest was opened and adjourned.

Regards Peter Maycock

Condolenscences to Andrew's family, parents, & Peter.

Andrew Maycock, a legendary paddler with a never-give-up attitude, and a perrenial competitive presence. A trawl through varied race results over the past 30 years (everything from ultra-marathon to surf ski to Sprint) reveals a hugely impressive, mile-long kayaking CV. Enjoyed many tough races against him.

He will be sadly missed.
