Can anyone reccommend a good GPS device for K1 training showing distance, speed etc?

I was looking at the Garmin Forerunner 305.

Has anyone used this model? Is it any good?

I had the Forerunner® 301 and found it great but not being fully waterproof after 2 years some water was getting in around the screen I have bought a Forerunner® 310XT and have only started using I would recommend that before the 305 Also Amazon .com are back posting electric goods to Ireland that were I got mine Mark

Thanks Mark, The Forerunner 310xt is a bit expensive so I think i'll go for the Forerunner 305. Seems to be decent value...

My partner had problem with the 305. It let in water but she is a triathlete and swam a few times with it. I have the sunnto T3 and found it great as you can change the batteries yourself. Moved on to the 310 garmin this month and still undecided about it for paddling.

Forerunner 205 ........using is pretty much daily for 5 years with no problems. Battery life is still about 14hrs!

It's left on the boat all the time (apart from charging) which I suspect allows it to dry out after paddling.

I use a bike mount fixed to the boat which allows air to get around the unit (as opposed to a wrist strap) which I think allows the unit to dry after paddling.

I train with a guy that uses a 305 and he has an equally good experience.

Another guy uses 405 ... it doesn't work well for paddling ...the touch screen is poor in the wet and screen too small to see when mounted on the boat.

For training, a reliable GPS giving Speed (or Pace), Distance and Time is, in my view, critcal. It doesn't lie and has an off button !

In racing, its of limited use other than Sea races where it will tell you when you on/ off the tide.

I have no experience of using one for navigation.

Used the 305 for the first time paddling today. Easy to use, decent sized screen. Nice to see exactly how far you have gone and to be able to plot your couse on google maps on Sporttracks afterward . . Happy with it so far anyway, thanks for the advice!
