Lawrence,

I would say closer to 70deg but there is no hard and fast rule.

The considerations are as follows:

a) You wrist should be straight as opposed to "cocked" on your feathering hand as you push forward to the catch. b) The paddle feather should not lead to wind catching the paddle. c) Your stroke should be comfortable and flowing - ideally efficient.

The angle will vary from person to person.

My advise, have an experienced paddler with a good style and teaching record (in the Cork area, Jimmy Kennedy is the man!) watch you paddling and take direction from there.

I would say 70deg but that may not work for a given individual.

Tim

Tim/Mark

Thanks for your comments. Being an old man i am used to 90 feather. I used surf paddles with 15 degress, thus zero rotation in the free hand. for some reason i thought this might have also been the idea.

Can you answer me, is the idea to still rotate the paddle in the free hand, thanks
